Description
A set of two iroko folding garden chairs handmade in the Mena workshop in Cornwall.
The Foldaway is an evolution of a European mid-century classic. Rather than redesigning an icon, we chose to refine the original 1950’s modernist design through careful and subtle adjustments to its construction, ergonomics and detailing. Nothing redesigned for the sake of it — simply improved for comfort, durability and years of everyday use.
Crafted from sustainably sourced iroko – a naturally strong, weather-resistant timber – it’s density and stability make it ideal for outdoor use. Precision joinery and solid stainless steel fixings ensure lasting reliability, allowing the chair to fold, move and age beautifully with use. Each surface is shaped and finished by hand, celebrating the warmth and character of the timber.
They open generously for comfort and fold smoothly to a compact profile when not in use – easy to store and always ready when needed.
Materials
We use sustainably sourced iroko for its exceptional durability and natural resistance to the elements. Rich in protective oils, it performs beautifully outdoors, standing up to moisture, movement and decay without the need for heavy treatments. Its warm golden-brown tones slowly mellow and weather to a soft silver-grey patina, allowing each piece to age gracefully over years of use.
