Bespoke build for the award winning landscape and garden designer Sam Ovens
Cloudy Bay Garden
Shadow Gap Cabin
Structurally unique, this bespoke show garden design wowed judges enough to earn a Silver Gilt medal at Chelsea Flower Show.
Working with awarding-winning Cornish garden designer Sam Ovens this beautiful shadow gap cabin in the Cloudy Bay Garden started its life in our workshop. This meant that we could ensure a suitable environment for the build before being transported to London for careful re-assembly and installation.
Using traditional joinery techniques, the cabin was crafted out of 102 intricate finger joints made of a beautiful Western red cedar, fitting perfectly with the naturalistic design of the garden. Red cedar, also known for its stable quality, guaranteed that the joints were robust yet lightweight enough for easy transportation.
Working closely with Sam, we ensured that the structural necessities did not over-power the clean minimalist design. Sitting amongst a garden abundant with heathers, native grasses and wild flowers the cabin harmoniously fitted in complimenting its surroundings. It was a pleasure working with Sam Ovens on this unique project; it’s so rewarding when structure, design and traditional techniques combine to create something exceptional.
